Village Holiday Celebration

The Fluvanna County Historical Society, in partnership with the Fluvanna Garden Club and the County Government of Fluvanna, is hosting the 5th Annual Old Fashioned Village Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.

The celebration will begin at 3:00 pm with tours of historic buildings, persons dressed in period costumes, holiday crafts with the Fluvanna Girl Scout Troop #844 and period games by the Peter Jefferson Society.

Also, the celebration will have informal tours of the Old Stone Jail Museum, live music at the Historic Courthouse and the Palmyra United Methodist Church as well as treats at Maggie’s House.

The first hour, participants can take a ride in a 1900s horse-drawn carriage led by Clydesdale horses. Also, during the first two hours, the McGehee family will give walking tours of the village. Walking tours depart from Maggie’s House.

Village Holiday Celebration BackThe live music schedule starts with the Thessalonia and Cloverdale Baptist Church Choirs at the Historic Courthouse at 3:30 – 4:30 pm. From 4:30 – 5:30 pm, “Just Us” will perform at the Palmyra United Methodist Church.

All participants will gather for caroling around Court Square at 5:30 pm. At 5:45 pm “Holiday Lights” program will begin in front of Old Stone Jail Museum. Make sure you bring a flashlight.

The Village Square around Confederate Park will be closed to vehicles on Dec. 12. Handicap parking will be available in front of the new Palmyra Courthouse. General parking is available behind the Palmyra Courthouse, the Heritage Rail Trail, the Palmyra Post Office, Village park and side streets around Old Courthouse.
