PALMYRA — The March 20 work session went so smooth it appears there is only one item for the Fluvanna Board of Supervisors to debate to set a budget to advertise.
And it is what some will call, “The 800-pound gorilla in the room.”
The supervisors have agreed on basic changes to the Nichols Budget which include freeing up $325,000 through various measures.
Right now, that would then be reserved for the schools but could go to whatever three supporting supervisors desired.
If the supervisors raised the proposed rate to $0.795 per $100 assessed, it would then allow the supervisors to fund the school system at $13.663 million. Each penny of tax is $267,130 at a 96 percent collection rate.
The supervisors will meet on March 20 at 7 p.m. to set an advertised budget and tax rate. Both will be advertised for at least two weeks before a final vote to set both. The meeting is at the Fluvanna Circuit Courtroom.
