PALMYRA — Fluvanna’s largest park will be closed on Jan. 4 for a controlled hunt.
On Dec. 5, the Board of Supervisors approved the Sheriff’s Office hiring Wheelin’ Sportsmen to help control deer population at Pleasant Grove.
The sportsmen will escorted by qualified volunteers and are all licensed. The Sheriff’s Office will provide security of the park.
The dog park at the eastern trailhead will remain open but no other part of Pleasant Grove will be open, per county website. All other trails and ammenities will be closed on Jan. 4. The park will re-open to the public on Jan. 5.
Wheelin’ Sportsmen are a part of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The organization is a qualified charitable organization which maintains a $2 million liability insurance policy.
