Morton opens campaign office

FORK UNION — Feda Morton opened her campaign headquarters to bagpipes and a small gathering of supporters on April 15.

“I’m an average citizen out here — a working person, just like you. I understand what we are up against,” Morton said.

Morton was introduced by her husband Don Morton and conservative Fluvanna Supervisors Donald Weaver and Gene Ott. Also assisting in introducing Morton were a local Boys’ Scout Color Guard and Fork Union Military Academy’s bagpipes corps.

Currently Morton teaches an array of biology classes at Fluvanna County High School. She graduated from Buckingham High School, Longwood University and received her Master of Education degree from University of Virginia.

Her politician life started in 1991 when she was appointed to the School Board where she served for four years. In 2002, she ran for the School Board then was re-elected in 2005.

“I have stood up here in Fluvanna and I will stand up in Washington for you as well. You can count on me when I go up there,” Morton told the crowd many made up of Fluvanna residents.

Morton served for 11 years as the chairwoman of the Fluvanna Republicans. She was going to run for the chair of the Fifth District Republicans before former congressman Virgil Goode informally drafted her to run.

“I didn’t go looking [to run.] But I do believe God wants me here,” Morton said.

Morton is in a crowded Republican field with Robert Hurt, Kenneth Boyd, James McKelvey, Michael McPadden, Ron Ferrin and Laurence Verga.

In a poll from Public Policy Polling on February 12, Morton came tied for third behind Boyd and Hurt. The primary is on June 8.

With only $7913 cash on hand both Feda and her supporters are delusional if they think she has a chance to win the primary. This is a woman who according to her comments on 5th district Fridays is not aware that China already has nuclear weapons. Feda is a nice lady but is way out of her league.
