PALMYRA — As of late on March 6, 7,868 county residents still were in the dark because of the late season snowstorm.
Central Virginia Electric Cooperative had 5,005 Fluvanna members affected by the outage.
CVEC has 25 crews working, with work extending into March 7. Some members won’t have service restored until Friday.
Dominion showed 2,863 of the 3,290 Fluvanna customers out of power. Both figures were as of 10:50 p.m.
Dominion hopes to have a better idea of how long it will take to restore power by the morning of March 7. Crews from lesser affect sections of the state and neighboring utility companies are assisting in restoration.
Here is an except from the CVEC release:
Crews are working on damage to the distribution system in all substation areas, most of which was cause by trees growing outside of the 40-foot CVEC right-of-way falling into the power lines. Given the widespread damage, CVEC will work to restore as many services as possible today, knows that tomorrow will be a full day, and expects that some outages might remain into Friday. Estimates of power restoration for an individual service are not possible given the scope of the damage and other variables, including additional damage that may occur as a result of high winds that follow the snow storm.
CVEC members can view the outage map and report an outage on the CVEC website.
The following is from the Dominion release:
Dominion crews from less-affected areas of the state and from utilities in nearby states are assisting in restoration efforts in the western Piedmont, Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia areas, where the impact of the heavy, wet snow – nearly twice as wet as typical snow – was most severe. Subsequently, strong winds are bringing additional damage to wires, utility poles and pole cross arms.
Dominion customers are encouraged to report outages to make sure Dominion knows of the service interruption. Customers can also view the outage map on the Dominion website.
Fluvanna County Public Schools again is closed on March 7. Fluvanna County Government Offices will be opening at 9 a.m.
