Fluvanna spoils CHS Senior Night

Charlottesville, Va. — A week after Fluvanna took a shellacking on their senior night, the Flucos played spoiler to the Charlottesville High seniors’ last lap.
FCHS (3-6, 2-4 Jefferson District) rattled off 33 straight points to dipatch the Black Knights (3-6, 2-4 JD), 33-22 Friday night.
“We came out here and played as a team. We kept it together. That’s what we needed to do from day one. [We] finally did it,” Sophomore TJ Dudley saiid.
The Flucos rushed for 241 yards, lead by Dudley who finished with 149 of his own. Senior quarterback Ryan Foster rushed for one touchdown and passed for three. He ended the night with 77 yards on the ground and 109 through the air.
With the Flucos down 14-6, Foster threw and errant pass that was intercepted and returned to the Fluco 1-yard line. A goal-line stand forced Charlottesville back to the 6-yard line before senior KeDarrius Bruce picked off a pass from CHS freshman quarterback Benjamin Wilhelm.
“I knew I had to get myself together and lead my team back down the field,” Foster said about coming back onto the field following his interception.
Fluvanna took over from their own 10 and marched down the field fueled with big runs from Dudley. For the drive, Dudley rushed for 77 yards. Foster capped off the drive with a sneak from the 1-yard line. FCHS’s attempt at the two-point conversion failed, leaving them down by two points.
The following Black Knight drive sputtered and Fluvanna took possession at their own 30. The third play of the drive and the first of the fourth quarter was a 72-yard touchdown pass from Foster to senior Cameron Coles, giving Fluvanna their first lead.
Charlottesville almost crept back into the game during the final quarter. After a three and out, CHS punted the ball that glanced off of a Fluvanna defender. The Black Nights recovered but subsequently had a turnover on downs. The ensuing drive was capped with Foster connecting again with Coles for a 26-yard touchdown.
“Tonight we (the coaches) kept telling [the team], ‘Stick to the plan. Stick to the plan.’ And they did. They came out, executed offensively and defensively and made plays,” Fluvanna head coach Rodney Redd said. “As a result, we took control of the ballgame and got a great road, district victory.”
Fluvanna’s first half did not go as planned. The six-man Charlottesville running game proved to be too difficult for the Flucos.
The first score of the game was a 38-yard dash from senior Raymond Parker. He finished the night with 119 yards on 12 attempts. The next CHS drive ended with a 21-yard touchdown run from senior Xavier Porter. Parker ended with 40 yards on 13 attempts.
Fluvanna gave up over 160 yards on the ground in the first half but then only allowed 22 rushing yards in the second.
“A lot of it had to do with our kids’ stamina. The fact we had a little more numbers than they did [helped.] I think we wore them down offensively and defensively,” Redd said.
The sour taste from last week’s defeat on senior night stuck with Fluvanna’s 23 elders. Charlottesville honored 18 seniors from their team of 29 before the game.
“I’m glad we could do it to someone else (ruin a senior night),” Foster said comparing his senior night to that of Parker’s and company.
Fluvanna finishes their season looking to crash another party. This time Louisa hosts Fluvanna on the Lions’ senior night. Game time is set for 7:30 pm in Mineral.
