PALMYRA — Despite scoring four runs in one inning, the Fluco baseball team fell to Louisa Lions 6-4 in the Jefferson District Championship on Saturday night.

“When we did hit the ball solid, except for the fourth inning, we hit it at someone. We just didn’t overcome it. We left way too many people on base,” head coach Mike Sheridan said.

Down by two, Fluvanna sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning. Five hits and a hit-by-pitch late, FCHS plated four runs, all earned. In total though, the Flucos only scored four of a possible 13 runners.

“In the fourth inning I thought we found ways to get on base. Kind of rallied there,” starting pitcher Josh Barringer said.

The Lions roared back in the bottom half pushing across five runs thanks to two defensive miscues that led to three runs.

“The difference in the ball game is we made two errors, they didn’t. That’s the whole difference in the ball game,” Sheridan said.

FCHS was led by Tyler Denby with one hit and two walks. TJ Dudley who had two hits and a run scored. Barringer found his way on base by two hit-by-pitches as well as a run scored. Zach Crawford had two and a third innings pitched with no runs given up and only three hits.

The Flucos will travel Monday to Brentsville District High School to take on the Evergreen District champion in the quarterfinals of the Region II Tournament. Brentsville has only lost two games this year, both coming by the hands of AAA Osbourn High School. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Nokesville.
