The Fluvanna Flucos girls’ basketball defeated the Buckingham Knights 80-39 for the Flucos’ season opener.
Fluvanna (1-0, 0-0) was paced by sophomore Mia Loyd with 21 points. Senior forwards K-anna Loyd and Sarah Ryan added 16 and 10 points respectively. Off the bench, Millicent Williams contributed 10 points while Lauren Key put in nine of her own.
The game started off slow with teams trading baskets. FCHS was able to stretch a five point lead to end the opening frame. During the second quarter, the Flucos led by as many as 17 but held a 34-19 advantage at the break.
Fluvanna came out strong in the third quarter and pushed the lead to as many 26 before the final frame where their lead stretched to 41 points for the final score.
Buckingham (0-1, 0-0) dressed only seven players against their once James River District rival. Guard Shania Miles scored 17 points while blocking three shots.
Fluvanna travels to Goochland tomorrow. Game time set for 7:00 pm in the town of Goochland.
