Flucos’ bite too much for Goochland’s bark

Palmyra — Fluvanna finished on a 30-2 run to defeat the Bulldogs 70-34 advancing in the Jefferson District Playoffs.
“Once we get a couple of steals and a couple of easy buckets in transition, that energizes our entire team. That’s what happened,” head coach Chad White said.
Goochland (0-14, 0-12 Jefferson District) pulled within eight points with just under a minute left in the third quarter. Fluvanna (18-1, 12-0) came to life and scored seven straight points to end the quarter. The Flucos held GHS to two points for the rest of the game.
“We knew we had to pick it up [in the second half.] Its bad when you know you have to pick it up in the third quarter, that’s not us. We knew we had to pick it up so, 45 seconds, we made the best of it,” Mia Loyd said.
Pacing the Flucos (AA No. 8 AP) was senior K-anna Loyd with 22 points. Mia put in 16 points while Ashleigh Harris and Millicent Williams both finished with nine points.
The Flucos advance to the Jefferson District Semifinals against William Monroe at Monticello. Game time set for 6 pm on Tuesday night. The Dragons are the fifth seed and upset Orange Saturday night.
“We have to keep in our minds we need to play like we should, even if we haven’t had practice,” K-anna said. FCHS has one scheduled practice before their next game with snow forecasted again on Monday.
FCHS is the top seed in the tournament winning its first Jefferson District regular season title ever and first district title since 1987.
“Its good knowing, K-anna and Sarah [Ryan] brought so much to the team, and our still taking us places, get that 2010 up there on our banner,” Mia said.
Before the game Fluvanna had a ceremony commemorating Ryan and K-anna playing careers. Ryan is the career all-time block shots leader and K-anna is second all-time in career points. K-anna also holds the record for most rebounds in a game.
Ryan carries over a 4.0 grade point average and K-anna is going to the University of Akron next year where her dad is currently an assistant women’s basketball coach for the Zips.

Editor’s note: I did not hear what Sarah Ryan is planning on doing after graduation but did hear her impressive grade point average.
