“You can’t spot good teams runs, and Madison is a good team,” FCHS head coach Nick Ward said. “Whenever you spot good teams runs, you going to have a hard time coming back–that’s what we did tonight.”
Fluvanna fell behind early in the first inning giving up five unearned runs behind four errors. FCHS scored two in the bottom half of the first frame then two in the third inning to bring it within one.
“Our team chemistry is really good. We don’t really ever get down. We always stick it out until the end,” said senior Brianna Robbins.
The Mountaineers (6-3, 0-0 Bull Run District) scored their first earned run in the fourth inning then two more in the last inning to take the final score. Fluco pitcher, Ashleigh Harris, finished the night giving up nine hits but only two earned runs.
Fluvanna (2-6, 1-2 Jefferson District) had 10 hits spread throughout the game and recorded a hit in every inning except the fifth. The Flucos were shorthanded because of spring break arrangements and only dressed the minimum nine players.
The Flucos were led by Robbins who finished with a singe, double and two runs batted in. Sophomore Terra Foster also had a single, double and a run scored. Junior Amanda Woods had a pair of hits, a run scored and a run batted in.
“I was like that (hitting) in the beginning of the year then got into a slump or something…” Robbins continued, “I came out tonight and actually hit. It feels good.”
Next on the docket for FCHS is district foe William Monroe. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Standarsville.
