Errors help Knights knock off Flucos

PALMYRA — Fluvanna gave up 10 unearned runs in a 12-1 loss against Spotsylvania Tuesday night.

“Everyone has their ups and downs — bad games and good games. This is just one that we got to blow off and let go,” starting pitcher Ashleigh Harris said.

Harris pitched four innings giving up five hits and six unearned runs. Harris also went 1-3 at the plate with a run scored. Freshman Hannah Miller had the lone run batted in for FCHS as she finished the night going 1-3 from the dish.

Harris led the game off with a walk and quickly stole second base. After a Chelsey Blevins sacrifice, Harris scored from a Miller fielder’s choice ground ball to third.

The Flucos (1-2, 0-0 Jefferson District) threatened again in the fourth with Kristen Bowman on third and Kaitlin Driver on second but back to back strike outs ended the rally. In the last frame FCHS put Amanda Woods and Kasandra Noraas in scoring position but couldn’t convert.

“Tonight we couldn’t stick any runs across once we got down. Much credit to Spotsylvania,” head coach Nick Ward said.

Fluvanna couldn’t overcome the five errors committed on the night. The miscues led to 10 unearned runs.

Ward said, “Our youth showed tonight. We’ve escaped it for a long time. Tonight it definitely showed.”

The Flucos next play at Madison on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm in the town of Madison.
