Baseball looks to have strong spring

After falling short in the Jefferson District tournament last year, FCHS Baseball head coach Mike Sheridan brings back a roster stacked with talented seniors and underclassmen.

Third and fourth year starters Tyler Denby and Ryan Foster lead Sheridan’s strong swinging line-up. Both young men were All-State selections as juniors and look to follow up with another spectacular season. Only this time, they plan on winning the Jefferson District.

While Foster and Denby control the left side of the infield, two more talented seniors, Zack Miller and Hunter Shepherd, control the right. Miller is the team’s most sure-handed infielder. Both Miller and Shepherd are threats at the plate as well.

Returning juniors Josh Barringer and Kyle Pillow also look to do some major damage. Both starters during their sophomore seasons, at catcher and right-fielder respectively, they surprised a lot of coaches with their young talent. Pillow will be joined in the outfield by senior Trenton White, a kid with a cannon arm and great vision.

The Flucos are bringing in more young talent in the form of sophomore TJ Dudley and freshman Christian Hackenberg. Both should see some significant playing time for the team. Dudley, a starter on Fork Union’s varsity baseball team as a freshman, could really put a hurting on the district.

The Flucos will have a target on their back from the very beginning and they know it. Expectations are high for them around the community and amongst themselves. With exceptional talent at every position on the field, there may not be a better team in the region, nevertheless the district.

They look to do great things this year and with stars like Foster and Denby—well, you can do the math.

Fluvanna opens the season at Monticello High School on March 26.
